INTERTWINE
- REVISED CALL FOR APPLICATION
(RE)VISION
Hedlandet residency still invites five (5) writing artist from the Nordic and Baltic countries (Sweden excluded) for a cross-disciplinary exchange within the art of writing, letterpress printing, book bindning and book design. The quest is to make an artists´ book in a traditional letterpress and bookbinding tradition entangled with the exploration of slowness, words, the work of the hand and the influence of place in it self.
The artistic process of letterpress printing based on the principle of materially producing the actual text and the artistic process of writing in a parallel process, allows the artists to contemplate the interdependence between the content of texts and their physical representation. The process of traditional manual letterpress printing will inspire and challenge writing artists when blending the creative spaces of producing text and matter.
The art of book printing in parallel with composing new texts in relation to the concept of intertwine by designing, printing and binding an anthology in a small edition (50 copies á 50 pages). Each artist has approx. 4-6 pages to express and develop their own conceptualization and understanding of Intertwine as a process of artistic research combined with artistic craft and it’s presentation.
Hedlandet intends, together with our collaborating partners Helena Magnusson (Gammelhuset Tryckeri), Kristina Enhörning (S:t Annegatans bokbinderi & konservering) and Johan Laserna (book designer), to entwine robust and environmentally friendly artistic craft with not yet formulated artistic text and transform it into a sustainable work of art to bring into the future.

TALK ABOUT INTERTWINE
During the residence program we will invite writers and researchers/scientists for informal dialogue linked to phenomenon of intertwine.
APPLICATION
The residency program is open for applications for those of you who are writing artists. To do this we need a short letter that describes "the why and how", a fragment of an idea based on the intertwine phenomenon and a CV describing the last three years of professional experience.
NOTE - the application is open for writing artists that have a permanent address in the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Åland) or the Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) but do not need to have Nordic or Baltic citizenship.
The last date for application is 28 of February 2026.
The residency will take place between May 4 - 24 and September 7 - 27 2026 and includes a stipend à 3.000€ + travel costs which will adapted to distance and environmental aspects up to the amount of 400€.
NOTE!
- Using lead type and printing on an old-school traditional tabletop printing press places great limitations on the amount of text and paper size. It will not be possible to write short stories or essays. And it is not easy to mix text and images either. The participant must be able to accept the limitations and turn them into a creative engine.
- The end result – the printed book – is a collectively created product. This means that it is important to collaborate with the other program participants.
